About Baltimore International College

Baltimore International College was founded by Roger Chylinski in 1972 as an institute that offered certificates in culinary arts. Over the years since that time, the school has gone from a certificate-granting technical school to an accredited undergraduate and graduate degree-granting institute of higher education.

The mission of Baltimore International College is to give students a top-quality education that prepares them for careers within the international hospitality industry. They do this by retaining an international faculty of well-educated instructors who are well-respected in the hospitality industry. Instructors have an average of 25 years industry experience.

Baltimore International College offers associate and bachelor’s degrees through the Schools of Culinary Arts and Hotel Restaurant and Catering Management. Beginning in January, 2007, BIC began to offer a Master of Science in Hospitality Management through the School of Graduate Studies.

Baltimore International College has a number of articulation agreements with technical high schools. Students graduating from culinary programs at those schools are accepted at BIC with advanced placement.

Baltimore International College seeks to provide a blend of theory, academics and one-on-one, hands-on learning opportunities. The school operates the Mount Vernon Hotel and Restaurant and the Bay Atlantic Club in Baltimore, and the Park Hotel in Ireland. Students have plenty of opportunity to learn in the real-life setting of these hotels and restaurants.

Culinary Programs

baltimore area culinary artsThrough the School of Culinary Arts, BIC offers a Certificate in Professional Culinary Arts, Associate Degrees in Professional Cooking, Professional Cooking and Baking, and Professional Baking and Pastry, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Culinary Management.

Students learn about food preparation and presentation, food safety and nutrition. They also learn about the business side of running a commercial kitchen.

The School of Hotel Restaurant and Catering Management offers two Bachelor’s Degrees, one in Hospitality Management, and one in Hospitality Management with a Marketing Concentration.

The newly established School of Graduate Studies has just begun to offer a Master of Science in Hospitality Management.

Accreditation

Baltimore International College is accredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and the American Culinary Federation (ACF). It is authorized by the Maryland Higher Education Commission to offer certificates and degrees.

Financial Aid

Financial aid is available from a number of sources. Baltimore International College participates in the federal student aid program. If you are interested in financial aid, you should complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Going to School in Baltimore, Maryland

city of baltimoreBaltimore is an historic city with roots that pre-date the Revolutionary War. It had an important role in the Civil War and in the War of 1812. Our National Anthem was written to commemorate the Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. The many historic monuments, sites and museums will fascinate history buffs.

Baltimore International College’s Vernon Hotel is close to the Inner Harbor and in Baltimore’s cultural and arts center. Students who are single, under 21 and who live more than 50 miles from the school are required to live in Dublin Hall in the Vernon Hotel. Nearby attractions include the Peabody Conservatory, the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, the Lyric Opera House and Walters Art Museum.

Baltimore has many beautiful parks and plazas and miles of beaches for outdoor recreation. The National Aquarium and the Maryland Science Center are nearby. The area has a vibrant night life and club scene and hosts many special events. Sports fans can watch the Orioles and Ravens play and can enjoy attending the Preakness.

Baltimore is part of the Baltimore-Washington metro area that is home to over 8 million people. It is an urban historic and cultural center.

At the same time, Baltimore has a reputation for being a hard working-class port town. It’s the “City of Neighborhoods,” and each district, or neighborhood, has its own distinctive ethnic flavor. It’s a great place to live and learn about the international hospitality industry.
