Ceramic Greek Coffee Cup

November 7th, 2007 by RG in Caught My Eye

ceramic greek coffee cup

This was one of the first items that “caught my eye” when I was browsing through the uncommongoods.com catalog. This ceramic Greek coffee cup is a replica of the “We Are Pleased to Serve You” cup that originated back in the mid-1960’s and was produced by the Sherri Cup Company of Kensington, Connecticut.

The original was designed to please the hundreds of Greek diners and coffee shops located in the New York City surroundings. Sheirri Cup Company called the cup Anthora, a misspelling of the Greek word Amphora meaning “ancient jars”. So next time you are at a Greek diner enjoying your bacon and eggs, you may want to ask for a “jar of coffee”.

I showed the ceramic Greek coffee cup to my wife who told me she had seen it before and knew all about uncommongoods.com. I should have realized she didn’t throw any catalog out before perusing them from cover to cover. She reminded me her birthday is coming up and this would make a lovely gift to have sitting in her office for her coffee. Hmmm.

These ceramic versions are dishwasher and microwave safe, 3.75” tall and hold 10 oz. The cost at uncommongoods.com is $12 plus shipping.

How Many Cooking Catalogs Do You Get In The Mail?

November 7th, 2007 by RG in Caught My Eye

Cooking catalogs

I don’t know about you, but I get a lot of catalogs in the mail this time of year trying to sell me everything and anything. Every time I purchase merchandise on the Internet (which is quite often) I get another round of glossy picture magazines sent to me.

A day doesn’t go by when my mail box isn’t filled with catalogs from clothing, gourmet, furniture, kids, just for ladies, outdoor, jewelry, museum or whatever topic someone can think of for creating a catalogue.

If you feel like you’re not getting enough of them sent to you, there is Google Catalogs where you can view a good selection of catalogs right at the web site. This is good if you are on the road and in desperate need of a catalog fix.

With all the catalogs I’m getting in the mail, I thought it would be fun to actually go through them and report every once in a while on what catches my eye. The holidays are coming up and these may be great gift ideas for you to put on your list or for you to send to someone else.

There is more “stuff” out there that you probably don’t need, but every once in a while you see something that looks interesting or “just catches your eye”. That’s what I’ll be posting here.  I hope you enjoy my selections.  RG
