About Monroe College
The school is named after James Monroe, the 5th US President, farmer, lawyer and soldier who fought alongside George Washington. He was also a successful business man who with Robert Livingston was instramental in purchasing Louisiana from Napoliean.
Monroe believes in a Liberal Arts philosophy so their students have a well rounded, comprehensive education. In 1983, the school celebrated its 50th anniversary by opening the New Rochelle campus, the home of the Culinary Arts Program. The campus became the educational destination for residents of Westchester as well as the growing international student body at the college.
Culinary Arts
With the help of experienced Chef Instructors, Monroe's Culinary Associate Degree in Culinary Arts will prepare you for finding and getting into the culinary marketplace by teaching you the cooking and baking techniques necessary to be successful. After you graduate you will be able to secure a position as a line cook, sous chef, pastry chef, or even start your own restaurant. Some of you may gravitate toward the corporate world of hotel foodservice or a large catering operation.

Hospitality Management
The growth of the hospitality industry is growing so fast that soon 1 out of every 8 jobs in the US will be associated with it. The Monroe Associate degree in Hospitality Management will prepare you for a fast paced career in the hotel, restaurant, airline, resort and casino markets. Some of the courses you will be taking include Intro to Hospitality, Food and Beverage Management, Culinary Arts, Principals of Accounting.
Their Bachelor's degree will offer you the knowledge and skills neccessary to enter into a management position and build on the knowledge you learned at the associate degree level. Also known as the "Queen City of the Sound", New Rochelle has over 9 miles of actual waterfront and is located in Westchester County. The city is only 16 miles from the heart of New York City making in an easy commute into town. Named after the city of La Rochelle in France, it was home to the Huguenots for many years.
The city has an abundance of recreational physilities including 30 parks with over 30 tennis courts. Three of these parks are on the waterfront making it a beatiful place to watch sunsets.
