virginia cooking schoolsYou will be trained classically learning the principles of the great French chef Escoffier and building on those skills to understand today's cuisine. Your instructors are Chefs who have worked in the culinary industry, know what it takes to be successful and are there to help you become successful.

Your education will include lectures, classroom demos, field trips, externships, classroom training but most importantly of all, hands on training. Your classes will average about 20 for kitchen labs and about 30 for group lectures.

Once you graduate, you will have the skills to enter the job market at an entry level position as a line cook, assistant pastry chef, catering cook or one of the other in demand positions in the culinary world.

Programs of Study

Associate degree in Culinary Arts: This degree program builds on the material covered in the certificate course and through expert instruction gives the student a foundation in hand and knife skills as well as a more in-depth study of baking and pastry preparation. The student will also learn about pantry cooking, American and international cuisines. There is a focus on the development of presentation, teamwork, and time management skills. Instructors will also give an advanced course in food preparation that will also you to create delicious dishes from even the most basic ingredients. Graduates from this program will be able to join the food service industry in entry-level positions such as line cook, prep cook and first cook in food service facilities such as hotels the world over.

Diploma in Culinary Arts - Baking & Pastry Program - combination program combining hands baking with an emphasis on pastry and bread making with business skills and critical thinking.

Diploma in Culinary Skills: This is a certificate program that provides students with a basic foundation in such areas as cooking techniques, baking, sanitation and a basic introduction to professional kitchen appliances. Upon receiving the certificate the student has the opportunity to further their training to a diploma status with a course in regional American cuisine and nutrition under the tutelage of expert instructors in a practical hands-on environment. This education is geared to give successful graduates the skills necessary to enter the food service industry in entry-level positions such as line cook, prep cook and catering assistant.

Bachelor degree in Culinary Arts Management: You'll be focusing on what it takes to manage a kitchen, restaurant, or catering operation. You’ll study communications, training, leadership, management, accounting, marketing, financial management, and employee relations. As a graduate, you're prepared to seek entry-level employment such as restaurant manager or catering manager in restaurants, hospitals, cruise ships, and banquet facilities
