Top Culinary Schools in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania is not only the state I call home, but is also a fantastic place for anyone to call home while attending culinary school. The sixth most populated state in the country, Pennsylvania is also one of the most diverse- consisting of some of the largest European American populations.
Pennsylvania’s culinary industry is more than just junk food. I have experienced the inventive and remarkable restaurant industry in the Philadelphia area first hand. It seems like there is always a new restaurant to try out and favorite chefs to visit.
The restaurant and foodservice industry employs over half a million people in Pennsylvania.
This industry will create close to 30,000 new culinary jobs by 2020
Some notable culinary individuals who operate in or are from Pennsylvania include:
Marc Vetri - Jose Garces (Iron Chef) - Susanna Foo - The late Milton S. Hershey Founder of Hershey’s) - The Heinz Family

Going to School in Pennsylvania: The sixth most populated state in the country is also home to the sixth most populated city in the country. This state, rich in history, is also where I call home. Between the four corner city hubs (Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown and Erie) there are breath-taking valleys, countless rivers, the Pennsylvania Dutch country, the Appalachian mountains and farmland.
The four large city centers provide countless entertainment, history and nationally accomplished sports teams. If you enjoy cold to mild winters, easy access to major east coast cities, snack food and lots to sight see then Pennsylvania is the perfect place to call home while attending culinary school.
A state famous for it's culinary contributions, Pennsylvania is a great place to live if you're considering a career in culinary arts, hospitality management, or restaurant management. Classic dishes of the Keystone State include hoagies, pierogies, cheese steak sandwiches, and soft pretzels. Known as the "snack food capital of the world," Pennsylvania is also home to a booming tourism industry that offers numerous opportunities for culinary arts graduates.
Farms and agricultural production are largely present in Pennsylvania and the state ranks high nationally in producing certain products.

What Do You Need To Know to Get Into Culinary School?
As the Reluctant Gourmet, I have never been to cooking school, but I keep telling myself it's never too late. The best way for you to learn more about becoming a chef is to visit my new Culinary School Resource Center. Here you will find articles, books, school resources and many other useful resources.
Also, try reading as much as you can about going to cooking school and what it is like to be a professional chef. One book I highly recommend to anyone thinking about culinary school is, The Making of A Chef, by Michael Ruhlman. It will really help you understand what you may be getting yourself into.
