Anyone old enough to remember the old TV Commercials “Does she or doesn’t she?” Well this is do you or don’t you use Monosodium Glutamate, most comely called MSG or sometimes by the brand name Accent?
Some people say that it effectives their breathing and it’s not good for you. Me, I use it all the time on meats that I am grilling.
Just wondering what the rest of you think about it and if you use it. :?: :?:

Only her hairdresser knows for sure ... oh ... that wasn't the question. I used to use MSG (Accent) on steaks that I grilled, but then kinda got away from it. I do a salt marinade now and don't feel the need for much else except pepper (yes ... fresh ground) when it's time to eat.

I like Lawry's Seasoned Salt which I think has MSG. I just went & looked & I currently have a store brand which does not. So I'm not sure.

Oh & yes I'm old enough to remember! Was about the time Madge was saying "You're soaking in it" if I remember correctly. (Palmolive I think it was)

My friend Mark Schatzker writes about MSG in his new book Steak. I interviewed Mark on my blog. He describes in his book how glutamic acid was discovered in 1908 by a Japanese scientist who was looking for the ingredient that made seaweed broth so tasty. "If you take glutamic acid and turn it into a salt, you are left with a crystalline powder called monosodium glutamate, which is a popular flavor enhancer that the world eats almost two tons of it every year."

Bleccht! Makes me feel weird and wheeze!
About all I use is olive oil and fresh herbs or if I'm too lazy to go pick, garlic and Mrs Dash.

Most doctors do not recommend the use of MSG, since it seems to have long-term effects on the body. So just to be on the safe side, I avoid it and use other things such as spices and herbs.
