I don’t know what it is with me and soup this time of the year, but there must be some reason for it.
Up on County Road 28 there’s a little café named The Fish River Grill. Since it is west of the Fish River I guess it’s closer to Fairhope than Foley, but it’s somewhere in between. Not another eating place anywhere near, except maybe Big Daddy’s that’s 3 or 4 miles away, but not even on the same road. About 4 months ago they opened Fish River Grill II on State Highway 59 South of Foley and maybe 4 miles north of Gulf Shores. Both locations seem to do a very good business because the food is really good and the prices, while not cheep, are fair.
They serve something they call Swamp Soup. It doesn’t matter what you order, Fried Catfish, Fried Shrimp, a Hamburger with Fries or anything else on the menu, your still going to get a small cup (well maybe a third of a cup) of Swamp Soup.
And well they should because IT’S GOOOOOOOD!!!!! :D :D :D
It took me a couple of three tries, but I just about got it. It’s so close I don’t think I am going to make any more changes. Go to the Recipe link for my recipe for Swamp Soup. |

| Summertime doesn't seem like soup time to me, either, but sometimes you just get a hankering for it. Can't wait to check out the new recipe!! |

Saw the recipe over on the recipe thread. The soup sounds really good, and I have some dried black beans and some fresh turnip greens that need a good home. In some soup!
We had turkey a few weeks ago, so I made stock w/the carcass and made turkey noodle soup. Will probably make matzo ball soup next. It is a bit (a lot) warm for it, but like they say, "Soup is good food!" |
