Okay who's out there? What is the last thing you cooked? Ate? What's for dinner? We need to hear from you people. SOBB! (Save our bulletin board)
The last thing I cooked was pannmelati (honey orange crumb cookies from Lidia's Italy.) Loved them but maybe a little hard & chewy for some folks. Will play with them maybe add a little butter or not cook so long. Lots of potential for variations.
The last thing I ate was leftover pizza for lunch from DH's employee appreciation day yesterday. (Domino's, regardless of new ad campaign still the same except has garlic sprinkle on crust.)
For dinner, grilled sirloin with mashed potatoes, corn or peas (DH can decide) & wild mushroom gravy.
It is bolete mushroom season (boletus edulis also known as porcini) in the high country. We went to a mushroom foray a couple weekends ago sponsored by the local Colorado Welcome Center that was led by a friend. Very easy to find & identify so we have a lot in the freezer. If you love mushrooms & live in an area where wild varieties can be found I highly recommend searching for a similar lecture & outing. (usually in the spring in lower elevations, in the midwest there are morels) So fun & yummy!
Ninjabut I checked & boletes grow in No CA too, do you go hunting? |

Well, Tul, I'm very nervous about picking wild mushrooms in these parts. Our local ones are often mistaken for the "death Caps" and several people from other countries and even a famous local have died or had to have liver transplants.
I'll buy from the farmers market or the local organic place, but picking!.....NO.
I'mm Baaaaaack!
Gardener (with a crappy garden this year!)
Had a 1/2 sandwich, peach and a V8 for lunch
Cod, and veges in foil for dinner with a TJ polenta mix |

| Ooh that's scary. We're lucky I guess because there are no look-alikes in our area. Well none that look like boletes anyway. There are several other edibles I'm not confident in identifying so I leave them alone. Chanterelles grow here too & are easily identified but I haven't been lucky enough to find any myself. |

I'm holding on down here in Lower Alabama. Took some thin sliced chicken breast out of the freezer a few minutes ago, so I guess I'll cook that in a marsalla/dejon slauce. Always a winner at our place.

To me pizza is more or a cooler weather food. Don't care for Domino's or most other pizza chains like Pappa Johns or Pizza Hut. There is a new place in Foely, AL (also a chain and it's been there for about 9 months) that makes pizza that you take home to bake. Best that I have had other than some small pizza shops. |

| Nancy, glad to see you are still popping in and posting! The last thing I ate and cooked was brats with macaroni and tomatoes on the side. Not too creative this weekend since I am working all weekend again. That gets very old. Anyhew, hopefully I'll have enough ambition today to grill pork chops when I get home from work ... probably with baked taters and some kind of veggie. |
