Anyone here, other than me, eat of cook boiled peanuts? It seems to be a southern thing. Even when I was growing up in north Mississippi, people there did not boil peanuts, but since my mother was from the Southern part of the state, just south of Hattiesburg, we did cook and eat them.

Here in Lower Alabama, most people prefer and cook fresh or green peanuts that are real big and have thick shells. Me, I prefer the smaller dry peanuts that have a thin shells. Granted it takes about 3 or 4 times longer to cook the dried rather than green kind, but to me it’s worth the effort.

As a side thought, I had always said that you could not get boiled peanuts too salty. Well I ate some the other day that changed my mind about that. These were so salty you could only eat a few. They were the big ole thick shelled green kind too.

Boiled peanuts are big in southeast Asian too. The Thai grocer across the street from my old place sells them. I think they're green ones & while good, I don't think they're salty enough.
