Last night we were at friends house who were hosting their annual "10 year old wine" dinner party. It's a great idea for getting together and a great way to open one of those bottles you've been sitting on just needing an excuse to open.

Our hosts Bob and M.C. prepared a delicious meal spice rubbed pork tenderloins served with roasted baby carrots and truffle mashed potatoes (my wife and I made the potatoes).

Of the many delicious wines we tasted, the stand outs were the 1999 Chateau Meyney, a French Bordeaux dating back to the 17th Century. The vineyard is in the St Estephe appellation and covers 51 hectares of iron-rich blue clay and sand soil. They produce about 24,000 cases per year.

The other stand out was a 1999 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon from California. This winery has been producing great Cabs for over 35 years and the 1999 was no exception.

Both bottles would have been better if we decanted them and let them breath for a little while but were great nonetheless.
