About Quality College of Culinary Careers
Quality College has been offering training for people in the food service industry since 1994. The program combines classroom education, professional cooking demonstrations and hands-on practice in a fully equipped professional environment. The curriculum is structured so that students get the theory, watch a demonstration and practice each technique before moving on to the next lesson. Programs are modular, and each module can be a stand-alone class or can be added to by taking the next module.
When students leave Quality College, they have acquired the job skills working professionals in the food services industry need. They are prepared for entry level positions in culinary careers.
Culinary Programs
Quality College offers both certificate programs and Associate Degree programs.
Food and Beverage Manager Program: This is a 40 week program that meets all the requirements for American Culinary Federation Certification in Safety and Sanitation, Supervision and Management and Nutrition.
Culinary Arts: This 30 week program is the newest Quality College Program. As a stand-alone program, students meet requirements for ACF Certification in Safety and Sanitation, Supervision and Management and Nutrition. It also forms the first year of the Associate Degree programs.
AOS in Professional Cooking and Culinary Arts: This is a 60 week (15 month) professional and academic program leading to an Associate of Occupational Science Degree. The course requires 1800 instructional hours, and students attend class Tuesday through Friday. At least 360 hours are spent in a practicum at the school’s restaurant, the California Bistro and Grille.
AOS in Baking and Pastry Chef: This program is structured the same way as the AOS in Professional Cooking and Culinary Arts, but the second year emphasis is on baking and pastries.
Faculty and Facility
Quality College is a small school that emphasizes small student:teacher ratios. There are about seven students for each culinary instructor. The instructors are all culinary-certified instructors who are skilled, experienced food service professionals.
Quality College has classrooms, computer labs and resources for academic learning. There are two food preparation kitchens and an instructional kitchen. The Culinary Arts students run a bake shop, a catering service and the California Bistro and Grille, which gives them practical experience in the real world.
Accreditation
Quality College is approved and certified by the Bureau of Private Post Secondary and Vocational Education of Sacramento, California and the American Culinary Federation. The school is associated with the Fresno chapter of the American Culinary Federation, the California Restaurant Association and the National Restaurant Association.
Financial Aid
Students qualify for various types of financial aid, including federal and state programs. All students should complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Quality College is also approved to provide education to students who are receiving educational services from the Workforce Development Program, Vocational Rehabilitation, Trade Adjustment Assistance, the Veteran’s Administration, and the Welfare-to-Work Program. Private loans may be available, and some students’ employers help with tuition reimbursement.
Going to School in Fresno, California
Fresno is located in California’s central valley. Although there are about 500,000 people in Fresno itself, over a million live in the metropolitan area. Fresno has relatively cold winters and hot, dry sunny summers with less than 10 inches of rain a year.
Fresno is the largest agricultural center in the country, but agriculture is becoming less important as manufacturing, service industry and public sector jobs increase. The cost of living is relatively low, especially when compared to other California cities, which is part of the reason it is the All-American City.
Outdoor recreation is abundant in the Fresno area. It is close to Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks, mountain trails and the San Joaquin River. Fresno has several beautiful parks, including Woodward Park, which has the Shinzen Japanese Gardens, the San Joaquin River Parkway and Kearney Park, home of one of the nation’s largest Civil War re-enactments.
There are plenty of cultural opportunities in Fresno, too. You can visit the Fresno Metropolitan Museum, the Fresno Arts Museum or Arte Americas, the Latino cultural museum. Save Mart Center Arena provides a venue for concerts, college basketball and other special events.
Fresno is a great place to live, and Quality College is a great place to learn the culinary arts.
