My daughter announced she wanted to make me breakfast this morning and came up with her own special idea. Mind you she is only 7 years old, has CP and walks with crutches, but that doesn't stop her from helping me in the kitchen. You may remember me mentioning her in my blog about her favorite meal, filet mignon with demi glace sauce.
She had a little help from mom, but the idea was hers and she helped making the pancake and designing the plate with whip cream. I'm also sure she used chocolate chips because they are one of her favorite foods. I thought it was cute and pretty tasty.
A lot of parents email me asking if I know of any cooking schools or cooking classes for kids in there location and I will start researching and listing schools on my site one of these days, but I always tell them to start at home. Kids love helping in the kitchen and I don't think there is a better cooking instructor for a child than a parent.
It is a great way to spend some quality time together, teach you kids some cooking and kitchen safety skills and get them to try new foods. It's unbelievable how my kids will eat foods they wouldn't normally just because they helped prepare the meal themselves.

I love the picture, teaching your children how to cook is a way to spend special quality time with them, they grow up so fast.

My 8 yr old has a friend who also loves to cook and since I spend alot of my free time on the internet, she asked me to look into classes for kids. Kitchen Kapers offers classes (not sure if they are located in PA). Shoprite also offers classes. I recently sat through one at SR and it was loads of fun. She learned how to make chicken pot pie and pumpkin muffins.
