The school was founded in 1971 by artist Philip Tractman and later acquired by The Art Institute of Philadelphia in 1979. It is centrally located in downtown Philadelphia in an 80,000 square foot building that once housed the CBS flagship radio station affiliate. Programs of Study
Culinary Arts – associate of science degree & diploma program: Utilizing classic culinary principals with emphasis on modern trends and cooking techniques, The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Philadelphia will prepare you in the basic skills necessary to find gainful employment upon graduation.
Some of the courses you will study include classical cuisine, baking, culinary skills, American regional cuisine, charcuterie and international cuisine. You will be instructed in kitchen management, menu design, cost controls, as well as running a dining room.
Not only will you gain hands on experience in your classes, you will have the opportunity to work in the kitchen and the front of the house in the schools restaurant, Petite Passion. You will also be able to complete two working internships in greater Philadelphia restaurants.
