What You Need to Know

Sullivan University is a unique educational facility that offers a separate department for those wishing to pursue education from satellite locations, meaning that an education from Sullivan University can be accomplished both on-site and online.

The school's online courses represent just a small portion of the total program listings that the school offers, since all of the work is conducted in a virtual learning atmosphere and is therefore limited in terms of hands-on training. For students interested in the culinary field, this means their sole option is a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a Hospitality Management concentration.

Below is some basic information about the Sullivan University and its online programs, but if you really want to learn more, you should fill out the short questionnaire and someone will contact you to talk about how to apply, time requirements, costs and just about anything else you may need to know.

About Sullivan University

As an educational facility, Sullivan University has been in operation for over 45 years. It is a private, for-profit organization with the goal of developing intellectual, social, and professional skills in all of its students. One of the school's cornerstones is that programs and courses are not necessarily designed just for vocational purposes, meaning that although post-graduation employment is the end goal, all classes are designed to build skills in everything from communication and teamwork to critical thinking and cultural appreciation. In this way, graduates are prepared for a lifetime's worth of growth.

The school first opened in Louisville, Kentucky in 1962 as Sullivan Business College, a one-year training course designed to create young professionals ready to enter the working world. One decade later, the college began to award degrees, shifting its focus to a more general-education approach than strict vocational training. It was the first private career college in the South to get regional accreditation, and soon after it was awarded that distinction, the school began to incorporate higher-level degrees into the curriculum. By 2000, Sullivan University had a firm online presence, offering courses and degrees to students all over the world.

Programs Offered

The BA Hospitality Management course is designed to be a “topping” to an existing Associate degree in anything from the culinary arts and travel and tourism to restaurant management – provided it comes from Sullivan University or an accredited facility that is recognized by the school. The entire course can be completed in as little as 18 months, and focuses almost entirely on the business side of the hospitality industry. Graduates are prepared to work as managers and leaders in the hospitality trade, with employment options ranging from small spas and inns to large hotel chains and catering companies.

Faculty

The school's faculty members are driven primarily by student needs and concerns. All classes – particularly those offered online – are student-driven and meant to allow a greater opportunity for future success. However, in addition to their teaching methods, instructors are also chosen by their educational and professional qualifications in their respective fields. This means that the school stresses both academics and real-world training simultaneously.

Facility

Online facilities always present a bit of a challenge for students who are unfamiliar with the format. Classes, instruction, and even some textbooks are all kept online and accessible through the computer 24-7. To round off this experience, Sullivan University also provides an online library and resources, so students never have to leave the comfort of their homes.

Accreditation

Sullivan University has regional and national accreditation through the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school is eligible to award Associate, Bachelor, and Master's degrees in both the online and on-site educational formats. Additional local recognition comes from the states of Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio, although the online courses are recognized in all U.S. states.

Financial Aid

Financial aid in the form of scholarships, loans, and grants may be available to students who qualify. Students and prospective students are encouraged to contact the school's financial planning department for more information on filling out the required forms and finding sources of funding. The majority of students who do seek financial aid get loans from either federal funding, state funding, or private financial institutions.
