Learn the basics and cooking becomes easy. – One of the biggest reasons I created The Reluctant Gourmet was so I could share what I have taught myself over the years with those of you just starting out. Like building any structure, you start at the foundation and build up. Twenty years later and I’m still learning.

Here are a few of my favorite cooking “basics” that will help you on your journey to becoming a better cook. For example it’s incredibly important to know How Much Heat to Use When Sauteing. Or how to make a basic tomato sauce or even a basic risotto recipe or a simple vinaigrette.
