Chicago is the largest city in the Midwest, with a population of over 3 million people. It is quintessentially urban, but also has lovely suburbs and nearby rural areas. Chicago is considered an “alpha” city because it is the cultural, transportation, business and financial center of the area.
The city was founded in 1830 as a port city on Lake Michigan. Chicago links the Great Lakes with the Mississippi River. Seven interstate highways intersect the city, and it has one of the busiest airports in the world. It is truly a “hub” city, with transportation connections to the rest of the nation and the world.
Chicago is well-known for its night life and cultural events. Professional teams from nearly every sport imaginable make their home in Chicago. Neighborhood parks and museums and event centers mean there is always something to do. The beach at Lake Michigan is a favorite place for people to gather.
Chicago has a four-season climate with real winters and warm, humid summers. There are plenty of winter and summer sports and activities for the entire family. It’s a great city to live in, and you’ll enjoy attending school there.
