Merci Chocolates

Merci Chocolates Giveaway (US only) (Giveaway Over – We picked a winner)

We Have a Winner – Ruth N

I was surprised by the responses on my Facebook page when I asked which type of chocolate my friends enjoyed more, milk or dark. Surprisingly, more of you seem to like dark chocolate over milk chocolate. I would have guessed it would have been 50/50 although there were quite a few responses that said “both”.

For those of you who like both or have mixed tastes in your family, let me tell you about these tasty chocolates I recently received for review.  I was contacted by Caroline who is  helping promote a brand of chocolates manufactured by the German company August Storck KG and called Merci. They come in a box of 20 individually wrapped pieces with an assortment of flavors including Cream Truffle, Hazelnut-Almond, Praline-Creme, and Dark Cream, Coffee and Cream, Dark Mousse, and Milk Chocolate. Each flavor comes in its own individual color so you can tell them apart.

I received my sample just in time for Valentines Day so I could share them with my wife and kids and I can tell you they didn’t last long.  I put them on the counter so we could all choose our favorites and in no time, they were all gone. Hey, it was Valentines Day.

I read somewhere the chocolate is from Venezuela and fabricated in France. On the Storck web site, it says, “The idea for merci was born in 1965, when it began to win over people’s hearts as the first individually wrapped gift-giving chocolate in Germany. Nowadays, people in over 70 countries of the world – from Poland to Singapore, from Sweden to Slovenia – give merci as a gift.”

From the Storck website, you can put in your zip code to find out where you can purchase Merci chocolates near you. When I put in my zip, I found they were available at my local CVS Pharmacy, Wegmans and Walmart so I don’t think you’ll have any trouble finding them near you.

The Merci Chocolates Academy Awards Giveaway

The Oscars are coming February 24, 2012 and the marketing company,, who sent me the chocolates to review put together an Awards Show Kit to giveaway to one of you guys. The theme of the kit is “the Joy of Thank You” which also ties in with the name of the chocolate. Merci is French for thank you.

On Oscar night there will be lots of thank you speeches from the winners plus plenty of champagne flowing “so as the stars share their thank yous, think of who you’d share a meaningful thank you with if you were on stage and consider saying thank you to someone in your life with a box of Merci chocolates.”

The Awards Show Kit includes:

  • A box of Merci chocolates
  • Four champagne flutes
  • A festive plastic popcorn container

Thank you for this contest. I enjoy your Facebook Page as it is very informative. My guess is that Les Miserables will win the Oscar for Best Picture.

  7. Naomi Boers says:

I think that Beasts of the Southern Wild will win, not only because of the message conveyed, but because of the simplicity of how the movie was made. I do not know if it was a low-budget film, but it appears to be. The film is very raw and definitely makes one look inside, it is painful to watch.

  8. Sue Gallivan says:

First of all, thanks for all of your posts. I really enjoy hearing other people’s opinions on different types of foods. it makes me try things I might not have thougth of. Your contest is a great idea. Who doesn’t like chocolate?
