PRESS RELEASEStar Career Academy Announces Closure November 15, 2016
CHERRY HILL, N.J., November 15, 2016 – Star Career Academy regretfully informed students, faculty and administrators on Tuesday that all classes were cancelled, effective immediately, and that the school will cease operations. As a result, all campuses operated by Star Career Academy, including the Culinary Academy of Long Island and ServFast Computers, are closing.
Students have been notified not to report to their campuses via the school’s text-message and email notification systems, as well as social media and Star Career Academy’s website. Further information for students, including how to obtain transcripts, will be available at www.starcareer.edu.
Tuesday, November 15 had previously been scheduled as a staff-training day, so no classes were in session. Employees were notified directly in person or via phone.
Star Career Academy’s closing is the result of the negative financial impact of a continued declining student population while operating in the challenging for-profit post-secondary school industry. Star Career Academy has done everything in its power to prevent closure after operating for 37 years and providing a supportive educational environment for thousands of students.
Star Career Academy would like to thank all of the students, employees and community partners for their support of our mission over the years. Faculty and administrators have devoted countless hours providing quality career training to improve our students’ lives and the communities we serve.
Star Career Academy campuses in New Jersey are located in Brick, Clifton, Egg Harbor and Newark, in Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and in New York in New York City. The Culinary Academy of Long Island is located in Syosset, N.Y. and ServFast Computers is located in Toms River, N.J.
Star Career Academy students and employees may visit www.starcareer.edu for additional information, or reach the school’s main office by phone at 856-719-0300.

About Star Career Academy
The school began as the New York Institute of Dietetics in 1935. The mission then was much the same as it is now: to train professionals to work in the expanding food service industry of the time.
Throughout the years, it added various courses in hospitality and restaurant management, eventually gaining it the name the New York Food and Hotel and Restaurant Management School. This came to a culmination in 2005, when it changed its name to Star Career Academy.
The three culinary- and hospitality-based programs offered by the school are Commercial Cooking and Catering, Commercial Cooking, and Hotel and Restaurant Management. All three programs are considered performance-based and hands-on. Students are expected to fully participate in learning the skills necessary to find successful post-graduation employment.
To this end, the professional courses all include externships and/or internships that promote real-world education and experience. All three programs are supported by the International Food Safety council to prepare students to receive ServSafe certification.
