St. Louis Style Barbecue Sauce

Not too thick; not to thin. Just right

Ingredients

  • cups ketchup
  • ¾ cup water or beer
  • ½ cup cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • ½ onion minced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon mild chili powder
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients in a saucepan.  Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  • Strain through a fine mesh strainer. Cool and chill in the refrigerator for a day or two before serving.
